3rd Rhos-on-Sea
First registered 14th June 1937 with meetings held at the Methodist Church, St.Georges Road. Rhos on Sea.
1945 returns show 3rd Rhos on Sea as having 61 members. A photograph, c1945, of John Butters aged 15, in full Sea Scout uniform which carries the three stripes of a Troop Leader, (Senior Patrol Leader). The dedication is “to Skip from John 28.2.1948” and the photograph was given to “Skip”, Scoutmaster Mr. Frank Bradbury, when John left the area in 1948.
In 1949 the Colwyn District re-organised the system for naming the groups and the 3rd Rhos-on-Sea Methodist Group became the 5th Colwyn Bay (3rd Rhos-on-Sea Methodist Group)
In 1950 a hut was purchased from / donated by Scout Headquarters and was re-located from County Durham to Church Road, Rhos on Sea. The building was to be the District Headquarters and used by the 3rd Rhos as their meeting room who would also act as caretakers. The building was officially opened in1952 and this original building was replaced in 1969.
A third replacement headquarters building opened 1st June 1996 In 1951, the group ceased to be sponsored by the Methodist Church and became an “Open” Group. Between 1955 and 1958 the 1st Penrhyn Bay (8th Colwyn) joined with the Rhos Group, Rhos having a good H.Q. but few leaders and Penrhyn Bay having no H.Q but a strong leader team. For this period both parties wore a plain grey Neckerchief.
Colwyn Bay District Rover Crew which was formed in 1966was closely associated with the 3rd Rhos and met in their H.Q.
1983 saw the formation of a Beaver Colony, the first in the Colwyn and Abergele District
