7th Colwyn Bay
No records have been found to highlight this groups many achievements. First registered in 1946, the scout group formed part of the Colwyn Bay Friendship Youth Club. The first leader was Bill Hollywood who had visited the area when camping with his scout troop from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He came to live in Colwyn Bay in 1939 in connection with his war time service. During his 25 years with the group the standard of their headquarters became legendary within the county as did their standard of Scouting. They were able to stage gang shows and have a silver trumpet band that performed to a very high standard. In the late 70’s the Friendship Club moved to new premises and the scouts found an alternative venue at St. Paul’s Church, Colwyn Bay, the Cubs meeting in the Church Room and the scouts in the Bell Tower the group also changed their title to reflect the move.
The last mention of the group was in the early 1980’s. Scouting standards were very high as can be seen from the photograph below.
