Conwy Scout District
From the beginning of scouting in 1908 until 1974, the geographical area that is currently Conwy County Borough had been shared between the old counties of Caernarfonshire and Denbighshire and for the most part, the river Conwy was the division boundary.
Denbighshire scouting made an administrative division into East and West in 1913 whilst Caernarfonshire divided into North and South in 1929.
From the North Caernarfonshire area, the former scout districts of Llanfairfechan, Conwy, Llandudno and Conwy Valley are within the new county whilst from West Denbighshire there appears to have been the districts of Llanrwst, Colwyn Bay and Abergele.
Local Government re-organisation in 1974 created two new counties, Gwynedd and Clwyd, which themselves had a short existence of only 20 years until 1994. Within the new county structure the seven former Scout Districts appear to have reduced to three – Aberconwy together with Llandudno Districts in Gwynedd with Colwyn and Abergele District in Clwyd. By 1998 there had been further rationalisation which left two, Aberconwy and Llandudno District together with Colwyn and Abergele District.
The County Borough of Conwy came into being following the 1994 local government re-organisation process. By 1999 the two Scout Districts that existed within the new authority had been re-organised into one Scout District that matched the new County Borough boundaries.
